About Dilution

Accumulation of Low Gravity Solids (LGS) increases mud viscosity and wear on drill bits. When solids control equipment (SCE) cannot remove these fine particles, clean mud must be added to dilute the solids concentration back to target parameters.

Handbook Mandates:

  • Hole Volume (V_hole):
    V_hole = (Interval * Diameter^2) / 1029.4
  • Solids Influx (V_lgs_in_mud):
    V_lgs = V_hole * (1 - SREE/100)
  • Dilution Factor (V_dil_factor):
    Dilution Factor = (100 - LGS%) / LGS%
  • Total Mud built:
    Total Dilution = V_lgs * Dilution Factor

The SREE Advantage

Increasing your **Solids Removal Efficiency (SRE)** by just **10%** significantly reduces the volume of solids that get entrained in the active mud. This decreases both dilution mud demand and disposal volume, leading to massive well cost savings.
